Crisp Point LIghthouse

Crisp Point LIghthouse

Crisp Point Lighthouse is a remotely located historical lighthouse on the shore of Lake Superior. At one time it was a life saving station, needed for the dangerous Lake Superior waters and the all too common shipwrecks in this area. Now all the docks and buildings are gone, replaced by a gift store and a camp host. This is not an easy destination to reach as it is a considerable distance from any paved roads leading to slow travel.

This place as a pristine beauty and a taste of remote wildness not found that often any more. The old pilings ( https://fineartamerica.com/featured/old-piling-and-big-waves-douglas-allen.html ) in the water reek of history a show that at one time more than seasonal tourists came to this area.

Lake Superior Scenes

Lake Superior is a large, blue, powerful and daunting entity. It's storms and ship wrecks are legendary and the coast has a history of life saving stations, light houses and the culture of the community relying on the lake. I try to get up there a couple of time a year to visit the varied shorelines. There are cliffs, pebbles, rocks and sand giving the photographer vast opportunities to capture a large variety of images. A polarizer can be very helpful in giving the water that lovely blue color, by cutting reflections. Often neutral density filters are needed to slow down the shutter speed and smooth out the lakes surface if that is what the image and your vision needs.

As a photographer it is nearly impossible for me to not shoot flowers. So at times I just need to try something different, something that conveys the feelings flowers can give us, a vision different than bright petals and sharp stamens. This type of photography can be hit and miss, miss, and more misses, but when it works, yes. Whether it works is really up for the viewer to decide, whether it worked for you or not, I cannot say, but I hope that you enjoyed the viewing.

Getting Started

Just getting started on this Fine Art America journey. My computer is acting up and creating significant slow downs on the process. I have years of shooting behind me and much to learn in front of me. Part of the learning is learning to blog and discover what it is people would like to know. Give me suggestions on what you would like so read about: techniques, trip stories, gear or just interesting photographic subjects.
